Engagement Party
Saturday, 26th January 2008![]()
The day dawned slightly overcast, and I hoped that it would clear soon with the hot sun. I realised very soon that getting into the shower was going to be a pain in the bum, so I nipped down to Southgate to Vicky’s room so I could shower and get ready for the day without interruption.Warning: Graphics galore!

Demitris’s Camera
Heidi’s Camera
Keane’s Camera Coming back to Kathy’s there was lots going on. Peiter and Grammy were getting the pig organised on the spit, and Tina and Chrissy were organising decorations. It was all go with getting everything set.

Sorting out the pig.

Kathy and Chrissy peeling spuds.

Paul and Ranginui playing with their new water pistols. Damn, those things were great! Bambi made a great rule the night before; you can only wet an adult if they wet you first. They spent the rest of the weekend trying to convince us to we them. Chrissy got sucked in at one stage lol. Tell you what though, it’s times like these that I want a HDD video camera.

The boys had to cut the hooves off the pig so they could get it in the spit. Chrissy bagsed them.

Mmm, dead pig. I do have to say, this does make me just a tad squimish. Even for a farm-girl like me. BTW, we named the pig “Trotters”. Don’t squeal at me you Vegies.
Demitris was not out of bed by 10:30am, so we got to wake up him in a good ol’ kiwi style: (Watch right to the end, the funniest bit is at the end.

I tell you though, I hadn’t thought of decorations. When Kylie came over, we sent her straight out to buy balloons. It’s a good thing that she was in charge of the vege/vegan food, coz she had a few things she needed to get for it. I was so greatful that Tina and Chrissy took up the jobs of decorating. We strung up some fairy lights, and Tina and Chrissy put together some flowers and tied them to the poles. Then they put together a banner. I’m so gutted that I didn’t get a photo of the banner, but it looked awesome.

Tina on the balance beam. Shorty wasn’t tall enough to get the lights over! Oh well, she did a better job than me. I knocked myself on the head with the plug end!

Tina and Chrissy working on our banner.

Basting and cooking. Cook my precious. You must feed millions of people

Around midday we all sat down for some lunch, and other family and friends started showing up to help out with setting up. Then the crowds really started turning up. It was actually quite nerve racking having such a lot of people to talk to. Mostly because I’m not good with small-talk so much, and because by the time we said hello to people, it was time to start saying goodbye to people.

Link and Kies at the children’s table. Where else would they be? (cheers Childspace for letting me borrow them).

Many people commented on how great the tables were. I thought it would be a great idea so that the children could have somewhere to go, and not annoy their parents so their parents would leave earlier. *pats self on back* good idea Heidi.

It’s me!

Check my bling au!
Go go geek corner!

I was so overwhelmed by the generosity of some people, we were given lots of presents (some we can’t use until we get back from the UK) and many people contributed to our Flight Centre fund. It was so lovely, and Ants and I are so appreciative of that. It was great that Anthony’s family were mostly all able to make it. Some came from Sydney, Wanganui, and Napier, Otaki, Levin and some live just around the corner, but it was so fantastic that they made the effort to come down. We probably won’t see them before we leave for the UK, so it was nice to have catch up. It was such a lovely day, and boy did that pig smell fantastic! I think it put a few people off meat though (Jackie’s turned vegetarian!) and I did feel a bit sorry for the vegans and vegetarians that had to smell the pig cooking, so I’m greatful that you all put up with that for us!
Ka pai, good Kai

Don’t look if you’re a vege!

Thanks Paul! It’s good to have an ex-butcher on hand!

Cuz cooking (slightly drunk cooking too lol)

Linky
“2-4-6-8 dig in, don’t wait!”
- yes this is how I announced dinner lol. It was the first thing that popped into my head!

Sorry Chrissy, I know, shocking photo.
I’m sure you’re telling me off right now for putting it up lol

Oh, there was steamed vegies to go with the pork lol
Dinner was fantastic, and there was so much food. It was weird because I was so busy doing stuff that I forgot about eating until most of everybody had finished, then I remembered! Then I stole Ja***d’s pudding because I couldn’t be bothered getting my own

Me just before stealing that pudding.
See, I have great camera trickery. Really I’m eyeing the food while looking the lens
Cutting the cake was so cool. I loved Brylies face when she saw it. Huge huge eyes! I don’t think she could get over how big it was, and neither could we… it took two people to carry it!
Let us eat CAKE!!

Ants and Raj – muscle men… you trip, you die. Many people want cake

“Caaaaaaaake” – look at those eyes man!

“cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut hurrah!”

Stop Ampy. You have to share the cake. It’s not all for you!

I love this photo so much, because I’ve never actually really seen that look on Ants’s face, the way he’s looking at me right there.
I, on the other hand, look shocking lol.
I had a giggle as the sun started to set. People had forgotten that just because it’s a beautiful day, it won’t get cold. I had a tonne of people asking me for clothes to borrow! It wasn’t long after that when people started to leave. This I was sad at, because I planned to have a few drinks and hang out. I took to (jokingly) hiding in my room when people wanted to leave so that they couldn’t say goodbye to me therefore they couldn’t leave *grins* Childish I know.
I think the saddest part about the day was that only my sister, her boys, and my Mum and Dad came from my part of the family. It kinda pissed me off actually. There excuse, as usual, is that it’s too far to travel etc etc, yet Anthony’s family came from Wanganui, Napier and even Sydney to sped the day with us. It’s probably the last time we’ll get to catch up with any family before we leave for the UK. I really was quite depressed that my aunties, uncles, and brothers couldn’t be bothered coming down for me. Only a handful more came to my 21st, and again, most of Antony’s family came to that, more of Anthony’s family than my family. *Sure makes me feel good*. But then I can’t be too sad, because all my close friends and family did come, and that was fantastic.
Anyway the night carried on. Kathy did a bunch of cleaning, and the rest of us rocked out in the marquee, singing, drinking, having a good time with the gas for the spit going out there to warm the tent up.

Yes, coz shades at night are cool Tim

It was 3am when Kathy told us we had to go to bed. Cuz and Jim from next door had decided they were going to town. We managed to talk Cuz out of it, but Jim wasn’t so easily convinced. He hopped into a taxi and went to town. I was quite surprised actually, coz I didn’t think he was like that. I was a bit dissappointed that we *had* to go close up though, because I wanted to stay up all night. Oh well, it was a fantastic day!
