Palmy North
Saturday, 15th March 2008![]()
Tomorrow is Kylie’s birthday, so I’ve headed up to Palmy North to be with her. I got there around 1pm and we chatted for ages. I love that even if we haven’t seen each other for a while, we can just pick up from where we left off. It’s great.
After chatting forever, we went into town to do a bit of shopping. We went to the Bendon Factory shop, but didn’t see much of interest there, and then we hung out in the square for a while, and carried on talking. A HSG (Hot Spanish Guy) came up to us and in his weird way asked what the best way to learn English was. We told him about going flatting, and then we had to explain what ‘flatting’ was, and how to get ‘flatmates’. We ended up speaking to him for about half an hour. He offered to teach Kylie Spanish, but she said “Oh no you wouldn’t be able to teach me, believe me I’ve tried”. I nearly kicked her when she didn’t jump at the chance to hang out with a hot guy!
After that we went back to Kylie’s place for dinner, which was something really yummy (and vegan), and then we went out to Sanson to the Haunted Maize Maze. We got out of the car, and immediately there were actors there, dressed up in scary costumes and makeup ‘haunting’ the carpark. I was childishly a little scared and held Kylie’s hand. We wandered around, had a look inside, andn then purchased our tickets. The actors hung around while we waited a little while for the group before us to have all had time to get through a little.

We went into this room that was the same 3D and there were polka-dots all over the room, and somebody was dressed in a black costume with the same dots on them. When you had your glasses on, you couldn’t see them, and they would stand and jump out, and make loud noises at the people coming in.
After a few rules, we were allowed to go down to the maze. We went thought a 3D tunnel that was spinning. It made me feel like I was walking sideways through it, and I couldn’t get myself upright. It was very cool. We went into the maze with a couple and it was good, because there was a boy to lead us. I was a little nervous, and Kylie could tell because I kept talking. We went through the first hurdle, doors that didn’t end, and when they finally did end, a person jumped out, and started to scare us. I wasn’t scared so much as laughing so hard that I couldn’t move. They kept swiping at my heals and that made me laugh so much more that I couldn’t move even more, and I said to the “you’re nearly making me pee my pants!” (coz I was laughing so hard I had tears rolling down my face). Kylie had to come and rescue me because my legs wouldn’t move from the laughing. It was so much fun, and scary trying to anticipate where the actors would jump out from. Right in the middle was great though, because there were two guys dressed as farmers, and they jumped out at us. Kylie said “they look like homo’s” but she meant to say ‘hobo’s’. I started laughing so bloody hard saying “wouldn’t it be… be funny… if they were homo… homo…”
One of them came up in my face and shouted “WHAT DID YOU SAY?!”
“…homo hobo’s!!” I said as I carried on pissing myself laughing. Then we turned a corner there was a disco stage in the middle with a mirror ball and spotlights, and “Hey, hey baby, hu ha, I wanna knooooow, will you be my girl?” Playing, so I had a dance with the homo hobo’s. It was great actually, coz I didn’t realise how tense I was until I got there and had a dance, and some of the tension had gone. It was much more fun after that. We carried on, and could hear a chainsaw going. I wasn’t looking forward to that part, and then, all of a sudden, we were at that part. We got past it, and then there was another one!!! It was quite scary, especially because the teeth on the chainsaws were fake, and vibrated in such a way that when they were put on your skin, it felt like teeth of the chain going around. That freaked me out a bit and I had to tell them to stop. (I was joking with Kylie later that I should have said ‘stop chainsaw man, I don’t like it’.) Then, all of a sudden….. it was over. Kylie and I were quite guttered that it wasn’t longer. We didn’t get lost, and it wasn’t as hard to get through as I thought it would be. We wanted to go again, but they didn’t have discounts for the second go, which was a bit silly, I though.
We went back to Kylie’s place after that and chilled out. We watched a bit of TV while we chucked up whether to go out or not. Finally we decided to go out, so we got ready donned our makeup and went to an Irish pub first. There was nothing going on there, so we went to Highflyers. There wasn’t much happening there either but we ended up staying out, and I brought Kylie a celebratory birthday drink just before midnight. We carried on dancing when I decided it was my job to be ‘wing-man’ so I spied a group of guys that were out and about that looked fairly decent looking. Eventually the crowd worked it’s way around and we were close to them. I told her to pick one, and she did. I leaned in and said “excuse me, are you single?”
He got a sly look on his face “It depends”
“It’s my girlfriends birthday and I was wondering if you’d give her a birthday kiss?”
He was a bit surprised but he came over to Kylie anyway. I let them talk, and they talked a little bit. Turned out he and his mates were up from Wellington for rugby. Kylie didn’t get her kiss, but she wasn’t too worried. She reckoned he wasn’t that hot, but I thought that he was.
We danced for a little bit longer, and then decided to head home. I gave Kylie her birthday present, a bottle of ‘Green Tea’ perfume.

Hi – really good website you have created. I enjoyed reading this posting. I did want to publish a remark to tell you that the design of this site is very aesthetically pleasing. I used to be a graphic designer, now I am a copy editor in chief for a marketing firm. I have always enjoyed functioning with information processing systems and am attempting to learn code in my spare time (which there is never enough of lol).
