It`s Winter Time

This entry is part 3 of 4 in the series Early Childhood

An article I wrote for parents for my work’s newsletter

“There’s no such thing as bad clothing, just bad weather”

Winter has finally happened. Unfortunately, we have to admit it. Oh well, time for rain coats and willies, jumping in puddles and feeling the cold on our fingers!

As you know, we have an indoor/outdoor policy. This means that the doors stay open for much of our session.

We want to allow children to choose where they want to play. Allowing the children to choose where they want to play, and what they want to play with leads to much deeper learning and development than when adults tell them what to play with. Because of these theories, even though it will be colder, we will still allow children to choose if they want to play inside or outside.

We ask that you dress your children in appropriate clothing for the day, and pack at least one spare set of clothes in their bag. When children get wet from waterplay, playing in the (gentle) rain or dirty from painting we need to be able to change them straight away. [the setting] does not have spare clothes for each child in our session.

[the setting] does have boots and shower-proof jackets for the children to wear, be warned, as part of our curriculum, we will be exploring in the rain!
