Wish Me Luck

It’s my first day on the new job today. Wish me luck – espically with the pay negotiations.

Got the Contract

March 08, 2007 : Comments (0) : Add Comment

So I got the contract today in my email, and it all loos pretty good. I get a health insurance plan with Southern Cross which is great, and everything else looks in place. The only thing I’m a bit dodgy about is what they want to pay me.

$16.80 is for starters, because I’m not provisionally registered (and I’m okay with that) – all I have to do is send away my form and some money to the Teachers Council. Once I get my piece of paper back, they tell me I will go up to $17.00. $17!! I feel cheated! I believe I’m worth at least $18 by that point. After my .20c pay rise there is another pay evaluation in July (because of pay parity with primary/secondary school coming in on the 1st July). I don’t know how much I’d go up to then.
I start my induction week on Monday (8:15am) and when I get there I’m going to discuss the payrates with them. Hopefully they will say that they will put me on a better wage – according to others I should be on around $20.00p/h. That’s a nice figure – and until recently a figure that early childhood teachers didn’t even dream about. I guess we’ll see what happens. I’m worried about what will happen if they say No. I really need this job, and it will look a little shameful if I ask for a better wage, they say no, but I take the job anyway. Hmmm

Offered the job

While at work today I got a call from the HR manager at the childcare centres I applied to work in. They want me!! I am starting on Monday. She’s gonna send through a draft of my contract tonight so I can have a read. Excited!!

Good News

I handed in my CV to a childcare centre in Petone in the weekend, and the manager has just called me back saying she loved my CV and wants to give me an interview! I’m hoping it’s sometime this week. The manager invited me to go and have a look around if I wish, so I might see if I can go in on Wednesday and be nosey (that’s if I don’t have an interview then). Hurrah!

5 mins To Myself

January 20, 2006 : Comments (0) : Add Comment

Wow, I am actually sitting down and having 5 minutes to myself. Not that I should be: I haven’t changed out of my work clothes yet, and I have a vacuum cleaner to fix (the metal plate underneath the head has unscrewed), a house to vacuum, a bathroom to clean, and washing to wash, but all I want to do is sit down for 5 minutes and write in my diary. It’s been a busy week.
