Not Our Luck

Well, the day started off pretty well. I slept on the couch last night, because Ants didn’t want to sleep on the spare double bed because it was too soft, and I didn’t want to sleep in that room by myself, because that was the room that Yaya (Ants’s Grandmother) died in. So I slept on the couch, which was fairly comfortable, and got a whole 5 hours sleep. Read more…

History

Man, did I sleep well last night! We took a while to get going this morning though. I had to strip the beds and put the washing on before we left, and then Cuz brought my laptop off me, so we had to get a few things sorted for that before we could leave. It was getting on in time, but I wanted to go to Puke Ariki before we left.

Puke Ariki was bigger than I thought it would be, with a Te Papa feeling to it. We had 15 minutes to rush around, but I wish we had more time. I tried to find the video that Mum was on, but I didn`t have enough time. One thing I did find was a story of the Swiss settlers in Taranaki. It was instigated by a guy who was on his (sort of) OE to Aussie and NZ. He came to Taranaki, and liked the farming lifestyle, so he brought a farm (Mum later told me that Swiss can`t buy land like we can which is why it appealed). He went back to Switzerland to find a wife, and while there convinced 20+ other families to come out as well. Then he set up a sort of safety net for other families wanting to come out, and he would help them find work. I am guessing that my great-grandfather was one of those families, but I`m not sure. Would be cool to do more research into that.

We went the costal road back to Mum and Dads place for lunch, on the way taking more pictures of the mountain. I also took a video of coming home, just in case I get homesick.

It was so nice to be home, and to relax. Mum and I went to Hawera to get groceries, and it was great to have Mum-Me time. I gave her a few lessons on grocery shopping (ie not buying too much junk food) and she told me off for being too hard on her lol. Then we went to the Warehouse for a look around. Mum brought me a new hat, which is very cool. Not quite as good as the one in Bulls that I spied, but just as cool. I also looked at one of the Active jackets that was very stylie. I would have loved to have brought it, but it puffed out around the zip, because there was a pocket made right by the zip, so it puffed out weird. I was gutted, because it would have been an awesome going out jacket.

Ants’s car looked hot in the sun

Home again, and we had a roast for dinner. It was so nice, and I got to play fondue with the left over cheese sauce.

Engagement Party

The day dawned slightly overcast, and I hoped that it would clear soon with the hot sun. I realised very soon that getting into the shower was going to be a pain in the bum, so I nipped down to Southgate to Vicky’s room so I could shower and get ready for the day without interruption.Warning: Graphics galore!
